Clark County Population Reaches 2 Million

Unincorporated Area of Clark County has Nearly 880,000

Figures released today suggest Clark County’s population has topped the 2 million mark while the unincorporated area of the county has reached 877,233. If the unincorporated area of the county were a city, it would be the state’s largest. The largest city in Nevada is Las Vegas with a population of 603,093, as of July 1.

The newly revised population estimate for all of Clark County as of July 1 was 1,996,542, according to county Demographer/Assistant Planning Manager Jon Wardlaw. It’s clear that growth in the community since that time has brought the countywide total population to more than 2 million, Wardlaw said.

The information used in the estimation includes economic and population growth statistics from the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition (SNRPC), Wardlaw said. The county and the cities collaborate under the guidance of SNRPC to prepare Clark County's Annual Resident Population Estimate.

The Local Population Forecasting Workgroup consisting of the Regional Transportation Commission, the Southern Nevada Water Authority, Clark County Comprehensive Planning and the CBER work together to provide Clark County's long-term population forecast.

Additional milestones in Clark County’s population growth include reaching more than 1 million in 1994, almost 500,000 in 1980, more than 100,000 in 1960 and just under 50,000 in 1950. Census records were not kept for the area prior to 1910, when the population was 3,321.
